Performance Management Training Course
The Certificate in Performance Management, delivered by our partner the Institute for Performance Management.
Performance management is a different discipline from channel management, so rather than build a course in it we point people at the organisation that already runs one. The Certificate in Performance Management is delivered by the Institute for Performance Management, a partner organisation.
Who the course is for
Business managers who carry responsibility for other people's output, with the material pitched at organisations between ten and a thousand employees. Fast-growing companies get particular attention, on the reasoning that performance systems tend to be improvised at twenty people and painful at two hundred. Passing the exam carries the Certified Performance Management Professional designation, which is there to show an employer you can get the best from a team rather than simply manage one.
What it covers
Ten modules, starting with terminology and working through aligning metrics to vision, mission, strategy and objectives, then the performance management cycle and the models behind it. From there it moves into writing goals and objectives, OKRs among them, performance development plans, and preparing for and conducting appraisals. Later modules deal with the harder end of the job: managing an underperformer and turning that situation around, and what it takes to build a performance culture rather than a reporting habit.
The syllabus was reviewed by an independent advisory council, the same arrangement the Channel Institute uses for its own certificates.
Taking it up
The course, its pricing and its enrolment details are on the Institute for Performance Management's own site.
If you came here looking for channel training instead, the four certificates are listed on the courses page, and there is a side-by-side view of what the different channel certifications include.
