Channel Partner Program Template
The documents a partner program needs, and the joint business planning tool free to download.
Building a channel partner program from nothing is a large piece of work, and most of it is documentation: the agreement, the tier definitions, the enablement path, the joint business plan. A channel partner program template saves you drafting those from a blank page, but it does not tell you which decisions to make, and the template is only as good as the thinking behind it.
The templates used in the Certificate in Channel Management come with that thinking attached. The joint business planning tool is free to download below, and the rest sit inside the course alongside the method they belong to.
Free template: channel partner business plan
Much of a partner program's success rests on the joint business planning process. This is the tool used in the certificate. Enter your details and the download appears right here.
Here it is

The documents a partner program needs
- Program agreement
- The contract itself. What each side commits to, how the relationship ends, and who owns what. This is the one document you should not template without legal review.
- Ideal partner profile
- A description of the partner most likely to succeed, used to decide who to approach and who to decline. Short, and the highest-return page in the set.
- Tier definitions
- What each level requires and what it gives back. Written so that a partner can work out for themselves which tier they are in and what the next one costs them.
- Onboarding checklist
- The steps between signature and first sale, with an owner against each. Programs without this lose partners in the gap.
- Enablement path
- What training a partner completes, in what order, and what the vendor provides. Needs a refresh cycle rather than a one-off.
- Joint business plan
- Per significant partner, with targets and a review cadence. The template above is this document.
- Deal registration rules
- How an opportunity is protected, how conflict is resolved and in what timeframe. Consistency matters more than the specific rules.
- Partner scorecard
- How performance is judged, shared with the partner rather than kept internally. Partners cannot improve against a measure they have not seen.
The channel partner program best practices page covers what each of these has to contain, and building a channel partner program covers the order to produce them in.
Templates are the easy part
A template fills a gap in drafting, not a gap in judgement. The decisions that actually determine whether a program works, which partners to recruit, what behaviour to pay for, how to resolve conflict, are not solved by a document. That is what the certificate teaches: ten modules, online and self-paced, about 20 hours of study, ending in an exam with a 70% pass mark, with a syllabus reviewed and approved by a vendor-independent Industry Advisory Council of 27 senior channel leaders at companies including Microsoft, Cisco, Oracle and SAP.
Graduates rate the Institute 4.9 out of 5 across 36 Google reviews. See also best channel partner programs and channel management best practices.
